EDIT: Oct. 8, 2013: This was kinda expected as I did submit this to over 50 groups... but it was mostly unexpected. This receives 1,000 views in less than 24 hours. What's more, this is on the deviantART digital art page on Twitter (~da_digital) because of its popularity x3
EDIT: Nov. 27, 2013: This receives it's next significant milestone since the reupload, 5,000 views. Thanks for all the support people ^^.
A montage of pre-existing video game & pop culture sprites made in pixel art by me & me alone. Started during a join.me stream on Apr. 21, 2012, I wanted to do something different instead of making random stuff on SAI which consequently got me absolutely nowhere in producing art people would like seeing. I looked online for references to get some sort of inspiration to draw. I was thinking about my lifelong liking of video games at the time. I then found a photo of 12 video game sprites made out of perler/hama beads. I saved the picture to my picture library & started drawing. I recreated the 12 sprites on separate files, with the first being Mario in Goomba/Kuribo's Shoe from Super Mario Bros. 3. After drawing the 12 sprites on separate files, I put them together in one file to make a thing I’ve personally never seen on deviantART before. I was amazed I had an unseen talent for pixel art. The 12 sprites I drew from the reference weren’t really much of a mixed bag as 9 of the sprites were from Super Mario Bros. while the other 3 were from Final Fantasy, MegaMan & Pacman. You can find it here from my sta.sh (insert link here). Though small with only 12 sprites, I had a strange urge to carry on drawing. Hence, I added a variety of sprites on different series, I wanted to finish at 100 sprites & I met that goal easily by drawing an extra 88 sprites from many more series. It took me a quick 2 and a half weeks to do so. However, after much appreciation from my friends & the people on deviantART & feeling like it should still have a bigger sense of diversity, I decided to keep on drawing. Most of this shows what I genuinely love such as certain video games or TV shows, etc. It also shows I’ve had years of pixel art inspiration from the first time I played video games at the age of 3 up to the time I saw bead sprites for the first time aged 18.
Please take into consideration that I do know I have issues with colouring. The reason behind that is due to the fact that some of the references I've used match the sprite of origin i.e. from their respective video games or the official artwork. As a result, I don't want to be accused of copying & pasting from them & claiming the artwork as my own (read the bottom). I'd show you to prove my point that each sprite was drawn from scratch as it was drawn by me, but a malfunction which made my monitor cease to work from Jul. to Dec. 2012 made me unable to draw. As a result, I had to use other PCs & the files of the sprites I’ve drawn on them are mainly on there. Fortunately, thanks to my friend ~Assassin1211
, I got a new monitor off him & I've been spriting from my own PC again from Dec. 2012 up to this present day.
I'm always willing to add to this, so if you want to request a sprite, feel free to do so but if you do, give me a reference so it saves me time & hassle trying to find a good one. I accept references of perler bead creations, Minecrafts, or anything pixel art related of pre-existing sprites but don't request something that is a fan-made sprite e.g. a spliced Pokémon sprite. I have a separate art project for those sorts of sprites. I also have commissions open on my page for 20 points for a perler bead sprite. I may also send it off to you if I can find my pegboards. I also have Minecraft commissions open on my page for 30 points but please note that for both the beads & wool colours I have, I have limits on what I can get commissioned on.
As much as I appreciate it, do NOT ask me if you can add to this by drawing for me & then adding to this. I’ve had some offers from people & again, I do appreciate the collaboration offers, but every single sprite has been drawn by me & will always be the case until I ultimately give up or if I run out of references, the latter is more likely. I prefer help & advice on colouring if you think the reference looks completely wrong in colours but don’t make me alter the colouring so it looks EXACTLY like the sprite of origin that I’m drawing. I want to be somewhat close, but not exactly the same. I’ve been attacked twice for copyright infringement & I don’t want to again. The first was the group Nintendo-Fanatics denying the submission of this to their group.
